The Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese communities will celebrate the start of the Lunar New Year with a mix of performances in Chinatown next weekend. About 10,000 people will descend on Moonta St next Saturday (January 28) to mark the Year of the Dragon. Up to 20 groups of dancers and musicians will take to the stage throughout the day and 17 stalls will sell a mix of food, including Malaysian and Indian cuisines.
The Chinese dragon will go through the Central Market from 11.30am to noon.
The street party will be held next Saturday, January 28 – the ninth day of the Lunar calendar.
Celebrations will kick off at 10am and run until 5.30pm.
