Mandala Developments’ luxury Rowlands Apartments complex in the city was officially opened today. The $51 million, 16 storey project, just off Grote St, was built by a team headed by developer David Lee.
In a different strategy to many apartment projects the Rowlands development was fully funded from the start, with sales beginning once the company had a completed apartment to use as a showcase. Mr Lee will live in the building, and has previously said the company is looking for further opportunities in the CBD. Mr Lee said a developer had an obligation to create more than just a building. “A building of this nature, size and stature has to contribute in a way that adds vibrancy to the life of the city, not just to the lives of those who live in it,” he said. The building includes 93 apartments, a rooftop bar and garden area for use by residents.Premier Jay Weatherill said Mr Lee was courageous and praised the project as an “extraordinary act of enterprise”.
