The 30th Anniversary of the sister-city partnership between Adelaide and Himeji will be celebrated this Friday the 24th August in Chinatown with a special “Hello Himeji” Chinatown Harajuku No Yoko theme.
The Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood will attend the event that continues to transform Moonta Street into a Harajuku night market with patrons dressed in Cosplay, Lolita and JFashion.
He will speak to the community highlighting the importance of the 30 year milestone.
“The 30th Anniversary of our sister-city partnership with Himeji is a significant occasion and I encourage everyone to come down to Moonta Street on Friday night and join in the celebrations” Stephen said.
“I was lucky enough to be invited to Himeji earlier in the year to celebrate the milestone – it was a moving ceremony and I look forward to returning the gesture by welcoming Himeji Mayor Iwami and around 50 delegates to Adelaide later this year.”
The Lord Mayor will also officially launch this website chinatownadelaide.com.
Chinatown Lunar New Year Street Party Co-Chair Conan Fahey said “We aim to make Chinatown Adelaide’s website, social media presence and digital marketing as comprehensive and rich in content as any of the most popular Chinatown’s in other international cities. We aim to be one of the most important and major websites in South Australia to attract a targeted Asian interest and investigation into Adelaide’s lifestyle and city focused tourism offerings.”
Harajuku no Yoko’s favourite market stalls will be there as well as DJ’s playing the best JPop & KPop. A live manga drawing session will encourage punters to have a go and OzAsia will be there with some surprises.
Highlights of the event will be streamed live to Himeji, Japan as we officially say “Konichiwa Himeji.”
Neko Nation (official AVCON party hosts) will give away tickets for their next event to the best dressed!
We encourage everyone to bring their brightest parasols and colourful umbrellas for another fun, free and family night in Adelaide’s Chinatown!
